How To work Through Pain

OK, here is my problem. I just had surgery on my finger to repair damage caused by a serious break. I have been going to an O. T. since the break as well as to a specialist. I now have to keep bending my finger at all the joints which is soooooooo... painful. I have stiches all the way up my finger as well as pretty good swelling. does anyone have any ideas how to work through the pain as I attempt to get my finger moving again.

Are you allowed to take any anti-inflammatories like Advil or Tylenol to help take down the swelling and relieve the pain somewhat?

I was going to suggest maybe a stress ball to use to help work out the joints.

Thanks Mrs. B. I can take Advil and I'm thinking I should take it regularly to help with pain and swelling. A stress ball won't work as the mechanics of the finger haven't worked properly in over a year. I have to use my opposite hand to bend the joints . Ouchie..... very painful. If I can't get them moving I will have to have the procedure redone.

Yes, Advil may help with the pain. Try taking Advil 1/2 hour before you start activly working the joints. It takes 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour for the Advil to take effect. be careful when taking Advil. There is a daily limit and you should not exceed it. Ibuprofen (advil, motrin) are hard on the liver over a long peroid of time. Are you allowed to take asprin?

It's pretty much the same time span for all medications that must be broken down by the stomach. The exception of course is gel caps which are a bit faster acting and the sub lingual (under the tongue).
