Put new ram in computer but now it will not load windows...please help

Hi, my friend just installed new ram 1gb into her computer, which currently has 512, and when she went to start it up it will go as far as the windows and then shuts off. Any idea how to fix this? She took out the ram she had put in and just left the original ram but it is still doing the same thing.

first, make sure all cables are tight. your friend might have bumped something. you should be using a grounding strap when working on computers or touch the case before touching cables, ram, etc. if that doesn't work you can try clearing the cmos. google it if you don't know what that is. or take out the motherboard battery for a minute, that will clear the cmos. just a few things to try, remember to make sure all cables are tight including power and fan connections. by the way the memory should be the same meaning a matched pair. sometimes you can get lucky and unmatched will work.

matched ram is not necessary, just the same type IE: ddr to ddr, ddr2 to ddr2 etc. the only time you need the exact same ram is if your looking to run in Dual Channel.
