Question Topic: Deleting "dead" threads

Deleting "dead" threads

Hello,
I was wondering if we were able to have "dead" threads deleted from the items for sale/trade section? Posts which contain items that have been sold or were reposted.
Thanks for your help,
Vanessa

Thanks for using the helpdesk and for your question

We don't allow users to delete threads, but if you want to delete your post, you can just edit it and take out all the content (and replace it with a few dots or lines).

This is for a couple of reasons:

1) Users being able to delete their own threads would cause problems for the discussion sections (the discussion and classifieds sections are currently tied together)... people who replied in a thread would likely be displeased when a thread gets deleted.

2) For the classifieds sections, keeping it online for a little while lets a user post "Sold" once an item has been sold, to inform others that the item is gone. If it's deleted, then people may wonder where it went.

But you do make a good point about ads in the classifieds section that are very, very old.

The main problem is #1 above, but we will periodically do a removal of very old ads, so it would help for that, along with the editting feature.

Thanks
