WinRar needs update?

Hi,

When I back up my computer it's also doing a so-called systemcheck. If I run that it comes back with the message I have to update my WinRar. Since this is part of Windows 7 why do I need to update WinRar? If I follow the link for the 'solution' it brings me to "Registrybooster" where I have to pay for an update?

Is there an easier way to get this resolved or is this just a scam?

Sounds like a scam to me. Download Malwarebytes AntiMalware and Spybot, run them and remove anything that those programs find.

I'm trying this now. I do have Avast on my computer as well, would that not have picked up on a thing like that?

So, this was not helpful at all, my Windows won't start up anymore. After running the spybot program this morning Windows started to update and once that was completed I turned of the computer.

Now it won't start up, and I'm running the Startup Repair, hoping any errors can be repaired. Why the &^%$ is this happening once of a sudden , I didn't have any issues before! Time to start saving for a Mac...

what exactly do you mean wont star? Windows wont boot or the pc wasnt turning on? did you receieve any blue screen errors and if so which ones? thats the problem at times with spyware, malware and viruses, sometimes removing them without paying attention can remove important system files as well. what were your results from your system restore?

I'm sorry. The computer will start, that is not the problem. But Windows will not start. It stays in some sort of loop and gives me two options:
1. start Windows normally
2. perform repair (something)

If I do the repair thing it keeps in that repair mode forever. I started that repair mode before I went to work and it was still repairing when I came back - over 8 hours each.

It did not give me the blue screen. A system restore was not an option I can get at. So I guess something is pretty screwed up. The guy that originally installed Windows doesn't respond anymore so I am at a loss what to do. Especially because i was working on a big assignment and everything is on my computer. I need some serious help here.

So, what happened. The programm that referred me to Registrybooster was a very clever virus. I did the spybot and adaware and when I had run them it asked me if I wanted to delete this one program. And I said yes.
It removed Windows 7 entirely. Seriously.

I got it all up and running now thanks to a friend of mine. But I took a jar and put some money in it: I am saving for a Mac now. I'm so fed up with Microsoft and Windows.
