when i stated my research years ago, i had no idea where to begin. But it is fun to try and see where your family came from. I did go to the chruch of the laddar day saints, but i didn't have birth dates or anything,,so my next step was to get birthdates of my grparents.. wrote to a catholic church in Hungary, and found all the informations i needed my next step was to find a translater in this city lol,, no luck lol so i stated going to all the message boards i could find in geneology sites, i found a Hungarian one,,it sure has been a journey. i now have the name of the ships my granparents came over on , and pictures as well,,, if your family came by way of states then go to ellisisland website,,,, this is a fun project... as you may notice i am not the world's best speller, but as i dug further into my past family i discovered, i had some family members that had trouble with spelling as well.. lol

Family history Research

Where is your family from. This is a past time of mine. I should have been a researcher and not a sales rep.

Thumbs up Topic: hobby?

Link for starters

Here is a good link for those starting out. I have also ordered photocopies of the documents and they are great. I have my grandparents and great grandparents marriage certificates in their own handwriting.

Over 30 years ago my mother started researching our family history, last march when she past away she had two Rubbermaid totes full of information, pictures copies of marriage licenses and so much more. She spent many days at old homsteads (historcal landmarks in Ontario), libraries, graveyards etc.

I would say unless you are willing to take on the project yourself (maybe you could spread some of the work out among close family members) you will have a hard time finding someone willing to go beyond researching maybe a couple of generations for you without spending quite a bit of money.

There is a lot more involved, and costs than people realize.

Good luck in your search.
